Dr. Luella Clay Carson

Our story begins in 1907, when Dr. Luella Clay Carson, Dean of Women at the University of Oregon, gathered alumnae at commencement to form a society that would unite university women in support of their alma mater throughout the state.

That initial meeting sparked the creation of the American Collegiate Alumnae, which in 1912 became the foundation for our own branch under the leadership of the new Dean of Women, Miss Ruth Guppy, and seven officers. In time, the association formally affiliated with the national American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Just as Lane County is shaped by mountains, rivers, forests, coastline, and community, our members reflect that same diversity. Individually and together, we are united in promoting principles that advance women and girls in this beautiful part of the world.
